How "Available" are YOU?

How "Available" are YOU?
By Anna-Marie Stewart

The internet can be pretty scary at times. Do you realise how easy it is to access your personal information? Your phone number, name, address? Even get driving instructions on how to get to your location (if you`re in the USA)??

Did you know that www.google.com works as a telephone directory?? If you`re in the USA, anybody can find you through their search engine. If you`ve got an unlisted number, this won`t apply to you:

Go type your phone number into the search box in this format 555 444 1212
(no dashes or anything). It`ll bring up your full name and address, and
it`ll give you 2 map links. The yahoo map will even give driving
instructions on how to get to where you`re at!!

There should be a telephone icon next to your listing. If you don`t want to be listed, click on that and request to be removed from the service.

This one`s for USA only, too:
Free Internet Access to Public Records

Listed are over 800 state, county, city and federal (court) URL's where you can access public record information for free.
CrimeScreen.com

Don`t think you`re outta the woods just because you don`t live in the United States. There are worldwide lists too. Here`s an example: http://www.hansaprint.fi/eypeng.html This one`s a combination of worldwide yellow and white pages. A lot of them will link you to maps, where anybody can see your location.

Ok, here`s another one, this one is reliant on people giving accurate info though. Do you own your own registered domain? go do a "WhoIs" here: netsolutions.com Brings up a lot of info, huh?

So how can you stop your personal information from getting broadcast on the web? Maybe you can`t, totally, but there are a few guidelines, that if followed, will make you less "available"

Make sure your phone number is UNLISTED! A lot of online phonebooks are based on a database used by the telephone company. Which in turn leads to your address.

Use a web based email program instead of the one provided by your ISP. Your ISP provided email address should only be given to your most trusted friends and family. This is because your ISP has your address, and possibly your banking information if your are allowing them to bill you automatically.

Get some software to make your websurfing anonymous:

www.anonymizer.com
http://www.articsoft.com/fileassurity_anonymizer.htm
http://www.inetprivacy.com/a4proxy/
anon.inf.tu-dresden.de/

Use a firewall program if you aren't behind one already. That way the
information on your computer can't be accessed by another online computer
without you being prompted for permission. This site contains an excellent list of many different personal firewall programs:
castor.tsl.state.tx.us

So what if your information`s already out there? What can you do about it? Well it`s a long, hard job, but it CAN be done, by actually using search engines to find your personal information, and then using the remove features supplied by each particular website or writing the webmaster and requesting that he remove the info.

There you have it, you`re "available" but you don`t HAVE to be unless you want to.

Networking in an Online Conference Room

Welcome to the NJAE Conference Room and the
scheduled "Get To Know Each Other" meetings.

Conference room with audio, video, whiteboard and many other features

Relax, kick off your shoes, grab a cup of your favorite beverage and prepare for a brilliantly informal meeting where the basis is getting to know each other better and networking with each other. Please feel free to introduce yourself and tell us what you do. Share your dreams, hopes, hints, tips and advice freely, you never know when somebody may be able to help you, or when you may be able to help somebody else.

At this point in time the meetings are scheduled to last 2 hours, but if they last longer, that's fine with us. If you'd like to hang around for a quick demo of the software after a meeting, that's fine with us too. We are also hoping for feedback from you as to which days and times would suit you best so that we can work something out for as many people as possible.

Scheduled Meetings

  • Sunday 5pm EST - 7pm EST (10pm GMT- Midnight GMT)
  • Wednesday 3pm EST - 5pm EST (8pm GMT - 10pm GMT)
  • Saturday 8am EST - 10am EST (1pm GMT - 3pm GMT)
  • Saturday 12pm EST - 2pm EST (5pm GMT - 7pm GMT)
  • Intructions

Download my conference room here: Conference Room This will install the conference software on your pc. It's perfectly safe and has no spyware, adware nor viruses attached. To read about the software and opportunity please visit this link: http://www.hotconference.com/members/njae/

To talk with voice, just click on the talk now button on the bottom left and hold it pressed in until you're finished what you're saying. There are 2 sliders above the talk now button. Use these to adjust your microphone and speaker volume. Text is also perfectly allowed, so don't worry if you don't have a microphone, or if you feel a little shy.
    We totally understand.

Above all, we want you to enjoy your time in our conference room, so if there's anything you think we can do to improve it, please let us know. Remember, the room is open at all times, so if I'm not there at the time, shoot me an email at admin@annamarketing.com and I'll catch up with you as soon as possible.

"Forget the Hype!" Still 3 FREE copies up for grabs!

I think the 2 things that have excited me most this past week are my new conference room and the fact that I've now started selling the full version of Forget The Hype. http://annamarketing.com/FTH.

As you may know, I'm a great believer in networking and building contacts, and I do believe my room will help people to do that once they start visiting on a regular basis.

As for the room itself, I really can't praise the conference software more than I have done so far without it starting to sound like hype, so I'll just repeat what I've said before: I LOVE IT!

The price is great for what it offers, and it has so many features that it's just absolutely fun to use. What impressed me most about it is the total lack of technical knowledge needed to use it, which is a mega plus for me.. hehehe.

Anyway, I'm hoping more of you will download my room here http://annamarketing.com/NJAEroom.exe and come chat with me so we can figure out some times that will be suitable for people to drop by for a weekly "Get To Know Each Other" chat.

I used to do chats like that in a different room environment when I first started the ezine, and they were very popular. They were always very informal, with everybody helping each other in any way that they could.

Any other ideas for chat/conference topics are greatly appreciated ;~)

Oh, and before I forget, there were 2 NJAE subscribers last night who won a free copy of FTH full version, and not the 5 as planned (all 5 copies would have been given away today, but it seems some of them may be a bit shy? ;~)).

So what I'll do is re-do the offer for the whole week. This means there are 3 free copies left, and you need to come in and chat with me sometime before next weeks issue is ready to go out, and your email address will be entered into a drawing for those copies. You will need to be a subscriber to the ezine to be eligible for the drawing.

Hope to see you there :~)

It's done. Forget The Hype! Full Version is now for sale. A whopping 74 pages of great information, and not a single affiliate link in sight...

We've all been waiting for this, and I don't know about you but for me it's a really exciting time. If you enjoyed the free version then you will LOVE the full version. And at only $24.95 it's a steal.

    http://annamarketing.com/FTH

As a special opening offer, I am going to give away 5 copies of the ebook.

We will do a random drawing of those who visit and chat with me in my conference room throughout today and tonight (Thursday March 3rd) You can download my free conference room here: http://annamarketing.com/NJAEroom.exe

The only stipulations to be eligible to win a free copy is that you must be a subscriber to NJAE. (You can subscribe here: http://anamarketing.com) and you MUST call in and chat with me sometime today.

Speakers and microphone are not mandatory, but to get the full feel of the room, they are highly recommended. We will announce the winners in tonights issue of NJAE.
