The Art Of Shameless Self-Promotion
Copyright 2006 by Willie Crawford
When it comes to really growing your online business without having a multi-million dollar budget, free publicity is essential. If you can master "the art of shameless self-promotion" you can literally get millions of dollars worth of free publicity.
While I call it "the art of shameless self-promotion," that in no way implies that you do anything dishonest or unethical. It just means that you actively seek opportunities to promote yourself – ideally for free.
I've been online since late-1996, and a major part of my massive success is directly due to me actively seeking and taking advantage of free publicity. Let's look briefly at some of the things I do, that you can also easily do.
1) Seek interviews on radio, and in magazines, ezines, and newspapers. I haven’t personally done television yet although I do have a cooking show coming out shortly.
This generally means writing press releases and pushing those out to the media so that they know what your expertise is. Add a "media" page to your website where you offer a downloadable bio, and tell the media how to easily contact you.
If you're uncomfortable with writing press releases, here's an inexpensive membership site that not only steps you through the process of writing press releases but also steps you through the process of doing most of the other things that I'll mention here: http://NewbiesStartHere.com The last press release that I wrote (in under 5 minutes), and then submitted through PRWeb.com, was created using the Press Release Generator on this site!
Comb the Internet looking for radio shows and websites that feature experts in your niche. Contact the people who select guest for these shows, or to feature on these websites, and point out to them why you'd make the perfect guest. Read some of the interviews on the sites first, or listen to recordings of the shows, so that you confirm that they are a match for you, and that you are a match for them.
This is one of the secrets as to how I've done well over 100 media interview over the past few years.
2) Seek to be featured in ebooks and ezines as an expert. People writing ebooks, or regularly publishing ezines on topics for which you are a subject matter expert, need you! They need to interview you and share your expertise with their audience. Your job is to be visible enough that they find you. That often means having a website that ranks high for your primary keywords, and that showcases your expertise. Do this and you'll soon be getting more request for interviews than you care to do.
Do as many of these interviews as practical. They all promote you, and provide “signposts” pointing to your site.
3) Write articles on your area of expertise and submit them to article directories and appropriate ezines. This is an excellent way to get your name out into cyberspace as an expert on a given topic. A great article PROVES your expertise. Having someone publish your article serves as an indirect endorsement and is usually MUCH more effective than running a paid ad in the same ezine. The publisher is hinting to his or her readers that they consider you someone worth listening too... and that's why they gave you some of the limited space in their publication.
4) Write a physical book. If you can write ezine articles, you can compile a few of them that are related, expand upon them, and you have the makings of an ebook or a physical book. Have as few or as many copies as you want printed up. Just having a physical book instantly adds to your credibility, and elevates you above your contemporaries/competitors who haven't written a physical book.
Think of that physical book as a glorified business card. People tend to throw away or ignore business cards. It's harder to ignore a book sitting on the corner of their desk. In the "about the author" section include information on your projects, and how to best contact you. Also offer
some type of free downloadable gift to drive them to your website where you can add them to your mailing list.
I have an inspirational biography that I wrote and use just for that purpose. It tells of how a poor farm kid, who spent most of his youth on welfare, eventually rose to become one of the Internet's “superstars.” It tells of how I made the decision to do this, made a plan, and then made it happen. More importantly, that book, available at http://GitOffThePorch.com (or at
http://Amazon.com) tells the reader what pet projects I'm involved in, and how to contact me if they need my products or services.
I have this book printed up by my print-on-demand publisher in small batches so that I CAN change the "about the author" section to target whatever project I want to focus attention on at the time. While I think it is a great book, and so does every reader who has provided me with feedback, it's a great example of effective shameless self-promotion.
5) Seek positions of authority. An example of how I did this is that I volunteered to be a moderator at one of Internet marketing's busiest forums. By becoming an authority figure at the forum, I gained instant credibility.
6) Leverage the “success by association” principle. An excellent way to gain credibility is to be seen, and photographed, with people considered experts and admired by others. This is why I teach subscribers and clients to always take a digital camera to seminars and workshops that they attend. Just by taking photos with famous people, and then posting those photos on their websites or blogs, those who listen to my advice often elevate themselves in the eyes of their audience. People see you hanging out with (or hugging) someone famous, and they subconsciously put you into the same category as that celebrity.
In addition to taking a still camera to seminars, take a video camera or portable MP3 player, and look for opportunities to interview celebrities and up-and-coming marketers. Use these recordings as unique bonuses in your product packages. The speakers and other marketers will often agree to do these interviews because they know that when you spread these recordings, you are also promoting them.
These are just a few of dozens of ways that I've used shameless self-promotion to grow my business to a point that it's virtually unstoppable. To discover even more ways that I use shameless self-promotion, drop by my blog and join the thread discussing this very topic. That thread is at: http://TheMostTrustedGuyOnTheInternet.com/blog/
I'll share a few more techniques on my blog that I couldn't fit in here, without making this article too long.
More importantly than discussing these techniques though - just get out an apply a few of them! They've been proven to work.

I'm looking for some very special jv offers...
What I'm looking for is mega special deals for my subscribers and forum members. They have to be long-standing deals as I'm re-building my whole list of subscribers. (I deleted them all last week as it had gone a bit stale with me being offline for a year with my health). As of this writing I only have 110 subscribers and 20 forum members, but that will change in time.
You can see the ezine site here: http://annamarketing.com and the forum here: http://annamarketing.com/forum
If you have anything you would like to offer, we could set up a place in the forum that you could moderate (like Jeffery and his hosting offer). I will make sure that any offers I add to the forum are exclusive to the people offering (in other words, I have a hosting offer and won't offer any other hosting). I think I have a traffic exchange offer on it's way, but nothing else as of yet.
Of course, this would be like perma-advertising for you as you would have links to your stuff on my ezine site and in my forum. Let me know if you're interested, or if you may be at some later date. Mail me at: admin at annamarketing.com and we can work out the details.
Thanks
Anna

Free customised ebook added to promo materials
Volume 1 has so far been the most downloaded ebook from my site. If you haven't read it yet, here's a small re-cap and a copy: It's interviews with 20 marketers, 12 set questions posed to each of them, so it's a LOT smaller than Volume 2 and it's free. http://annamarketing.com/dl/RLMI.V1.0.zip
What I propose is this: if you sign up for the affiliate program (or already have) Send me your name and website url, plus your affiliate ID and I'll customise the free version manually for you to give away to your subscribers, contacts and friends. Volume 1 has a link in it pointing to volume 2, this is the affiliate link I will customise. Your name and website info will be at the top of the book where it says : Brought to you by
If needed, you can also have a copy of the name capture page I have been using for Volume 1 (of course, you'll have to edit it for yourself) http://annamarketing.com/INT/interviewbook.html
If you haven't yet done so, please sign up for the affiliate program here: http://annamarketing.com/jv/index.php

RSS Questions and Answers
By Dale King
If you are technically challenged like I am, you should find this article right up your alley.
Question: What do the initials RSS stand for?
Answer: RSS is an acronym for Rich Site Summary, or Really Simple Syndication.
Question: What exactly is RSS?
Answer: RSS is an XML format for sharing content among different websites such as news items. Basically, it's an alternative means of accessing the vast amount of information that now exists on the Internet. Instead of the user browsing websites for information of interest, the information is sent directly to the user.
I should also point out, RSS is just one standard for expressing feeds as XML. Another well-known choice is Atom. Both formats have their supporters, and it does not appear that consolidation toward a single standard is imminent. That's because most feed subscribers simply want fresh content and don't care about the underlying protocol.
Question: How does RSS work?
Answer: A website can allow other sites to publish some of its content by creating an RSS document and registers the document with an RSS publisher. A web publisher can post a link to the RSS feed so users can read the distributed content on his or her site.
Question: Why are the advantages to using RSS?
Answer: Advances in technology in the online publishing genre has made it amazingly simple to not only publish regular updates to web-based content, but also keep track of a large number of your favorite websites or blogs, without having to remember to check each site manually or cluttering up your e-mail Inbox. RSS gives you the advantage of streamlining your online experience by subscribing to specific content feeds and aggregating this information in one place to be read at your convenience.
Question: Who publishes RSS feeds?
Answer: Most of the biggest names on the Internet offer content feeds including USATODAY.com, BBC News Headlines, ABCNews, CNET, Yahoo!, Amazon.com (including a podcast!), and many more. In addition, hundreds of thousands of bloggers, podcasters and videobloggers publish feeds to keep themselves better connected to their readers, critics, etc. Apple, through its iTunes Music Store, offers tens of thousands of audio and video podcasts for download, each of which is powered by a feed.
Question: How do I read RSS feeds?
Answer: If you want to browse and subscribe to feeds, you have many choices. Today, there are thousands of different feed reading applications, (AKA) "news aggregators" (for text, mostly) or "podcatchers" (for podcasts). There are even readers that work exclusively on mobile devices.
Some require a small purchase price, but are extremely user-friendly, and come pre-loaded with dozens of feeds so that you can start exploring the feed "universe" immediately. Free readers are available as well. Just do a a search for "Feed reader" or "Feed aggregator" at your favorite search engine.
Question: How can I publish my own RSS feeds at my website or blog?
Answer: If you are using one of the popular blogging platforms or publishing tools like Blogger, Wordpress or Typepad, more than likely, you're already publishing a feed automatically. There are also tools on the market that can help transform traditional web content into the proper format for distribution. In addition, more and more website building software already have RSS feed capabilities built right into their programs.
Here's another option: If you prefer, you can use an online service to track and manage your feeds. These types of services give you the advantage of being able to access your feed updates anywhere you can find a web browser. Just like you can check your e-mail anywhere there's a web browser. In addition, upgrades and new features are added automatically.
Just go to your favorite search engine and do a search for "Feed management service" or "RSS feed management service."

New E-book Offers Personalized Insight into the Strategies of Successful Internet Marketers
Summary: AnnaMarketing.com releases Real Life Marketer Interviews Volume II; a compilation of case studies and interviews with fifty successful internet marketers by previously published author, Anna-Marie Stewart
For_Immediate_Release:
Cardigan, Wales (PR WEB) August 15, 2006 – Anna-Marie Stewart of AnnaMarketing.com has released a second installment of Real Life Marketer Interviews. Real Life Marketer Interviews Volume II is composed of fifty in-depth interviews with successful internet marketers who share their individualized accomplishments in the online marketplace. It follows the successful Real Life Marketer Interviews, which was released in 2005.
“I want to show everyday people that it IS possible to make money online without listening to all the hype and getting burnt, but by actually working your business AS a business,” says Stewart, the online author of the Real Life Marketer Interviews series.
Stewart, inspired by her personal bumpy road to internet marketing success, creates materials to give perspective to beginning business owners starting to explore various online avenues. Stewart spent almost seven years attempting various business ventures and following the latest marketing trends before finding her niche. She has been able to translate these experiences, as well as those of other flourishing business owners, into quality products to help others find their way.
In her latest work, Stewart interviews well-known individuals within online communities in an effort to extract information that can inspire and assist others in their online ventures. The interview subjects reveal past mistakes, day-to-day activities, large-scale business strategies, and personal thoughts on the future of online marketing.
In addition to the fifty interviews, Real Life Marketer Interviews Volume II includes bonus features with an additional six interviews, twenty-one case studies, as well as five audio versions of the actual interviews.

Ok what can i say here????
Ok, i got it, WOW!!
I've only read through half of the ebook and my mind is full of some great ideas. I've listened to some fantastic audios (im an audio kinda guy) and I have found some great insight to some of the IM guys in this very forum. They all talk about what makes them as a person and as a business man/woman.
Hopefully this isnt going overboard about your product Anna but the very marketers that i personaly look upto even told me about there failures and how they overcame them, now i dont feel like a failure for some of my products not working, i feel motivated to make the rest work.
Im very pleased you released this Anna, i was very close to giving up but not anymore.
From a very happy man.
All the best.

Wow! That had to have been the largest compiliation of interviews I've seen to date. It was awesome hearing about each one's own successes, how they started out, and also their failures. It puts things back into perspective realizing they were each in my shoes with my knowledge. It certainly sparks the flame at the end of the tunnel.
The best thing I got out of this was recognizing the common ground each person had with the others. Knowing what all of these successful internet marketers are doing is key and I can't wait to implement them.
Thank you for letting me review your interviews. I found them entertaining, informational, and in the end - inspiring. It came at a great time for me as I needed a little encouragement.

After reading volume 1 of the Real Life Internet Marketers ebook, I developed a strong taste for more. Once I heard that Anna-Marie Stewart was writing up a 2nd volume I almost jumped up for joy – seriously! RLIM2 is an ebook which contains over 50 exclusive interviews from everyday Internet marketers. They are not some wild species but everyday people who have made a living online by working hard, believing in their dream and learning from others.
The interviews are well constructed and Anna-Marie-Steward definitely asked the right questions and inturn the right answers were given. The marketers don’t beat around the bush. They tell you exactly how they started and the reasons why they believe they are successful. Many useful tips and stories are shared in the ebook and I am positive I along with the other people who read the book will learn a lot from the interviewees and I know that my online business will benefit from the advice.
Not only does RLIM2 contain 50 interviews it also contains bonus material and it’s not some poor compilation of free products! The bonus material consists of several case studies, bonus interviews as well as a few audio interviews. The best thing is that the bonus material is exclusive content straight from Anna-Marie-Stewart.
I really enjoyed reading the whole package and honestly cannot think of any reason why you should not look into purchasing it as well. It’s a package which you will re-read several times and refer to in the future. The price is inexpensive and you get over 200 pages of real useful content.

Hi Anna,
I just want to say "WELL DONE!"
I have only read the ebook thus far, not even the bonuses yet, nor have I listened to the audios yet, but the ebook alone is worth much more than the price of admission for those who want to learn how to become successful online.
I have learned so much! I can think more clearly now and with more focus as I have seen that these successful people have experienced some of the same setbacks, failures, and loss of confidence that I have experienced, and the way they overcame them is just so motivating and inspiring.
Also, I was amazed at all of the helpful websites included, not to mention the freebies offered by some of them.
I have learned how to get more traffic, which tools will help me be more productive, the no-nos to look out for, and the books that I should read to learn more about my craft and also to help me to acquire the right attitude and perspective if I'm serious about this, and I am.
In fact, I am more serious than ever after reading these interviews!
I am excited and quite anxious to put these newly learned lessons and tools into use!
Thanks so much!
Warm regards,
Sandra Cobb

I have a SERIOUS COMPLAINT about this ebook.....................
I havent slept for more than a couple of hours in the last 36hrs since I started reading Anna's new ebook.......
THIS IS MASSIVE!!!!!!!!!
IT'S A “CANT PUT IT DOWN” READ!!!!
I WISH THIS HAD BEEN AROUND WHEN I STARTED OUT ON THE INTERNET!!!!!
This ebook, and its associated audio interviews, has GIVEN ME NEW FOCUS. With each and every new interview you find fantastic insights into the REAL PEOPLE in the Digital Market. REAL PEOPLE with REAL DREAMS, REAL PROBLEMS and REAL SUCCESS (and how they overcame their set backs and failures.....hey we are only human after all).
No matter what stage you feel you are at, in this fantastic Internet Business World, I challenge you to NOT FIND this one of the most VALUABLE Digital Products in the e-Market today!
Anna has set out her stall, and might I say, has executed a product that I believe will become and Industry Classic.
Each Interview contains a set of questions (that have obviously been carefully researched and tested even before they were posed) which serve to draw out information about each of the people “behind the name”. (I already knew some of these people from certain interactions over the years.......well I THOUGHT I KNEW THEM.....it's great to see the ACTUAL persons VIEW POINT, HOPES and DREAMS)
Whilst illustrating parts of their true business credentials and their REAL LIVES, this product serves as a REAL MOTIVATOR!!!! We all have times when we think, or have thought, “Is this really worth the hastle?”.......read this and YOU WILL KNOW THE ANSWER!!
The QUALITY of the questions, the QUALITY of the Interviewees, the QUALITY of the resources and insights they give are well...............QUALITY!
SUMMARY
This is a large ebook (some 200+ pages), excellent audio interviews, superb bonus products, fantastic in built resource links and should be on EVERYONES EBOOK SHELF!!!
I found it gripping, entertaining and motivating, all in one.
This is the first ebook of this magnitude that has “REALLY HELD ME”!
Congratulations Anna and thank you so much for bringing the to the online community..............
WHENS THE NEXT ONE?!
Oh and by the way people..............follow this link to find out more.

About Internet Marketing: Starting Out
So you’re new to the internet, and want to learn everything you can about internet marketing. Or at least the essential basics, and you want a place to go to find the answers to all of your questions?
I hate to tell you this, and I'm really sorry, but as far as I know, there IS no one-stop source to learning the essential marketing skills, apart from school maybe, but I will TRY to answer some questions you may have from my own experience:
Let's see, I started out with absolutely NO computer knowledge at all. Went to chat rooms, talked with people, got me some contacts, then one day I got a junk mail full of hype (that I believed...hehehe) and promptly started joining affiliate programs. I joined this one, that one and the other one, all full of promises that I'd be mega-rich within a few months. Being a newbie, I swallowed it all. Hook, line and sinker. None of it ever panned out right though.
I lost some money, not huge amounts, but more than I'd care to remember, so I started with the free stuff. I didn't have any knowledge on building downlines and stuff, so that didn't work either. Then I started helping people I referred to various things, and things looked slightly better. It was all free stuff that didn't make me any real money, but it gave me traffic to other free sites I was promoting, I got downlines, and I got contacts, so I knew it was working.
After that, I kinda concentrated on helping everybody I came across, to the point where that was ALL I was doing, and funnily enough, I loved it. Still didn’t make me money, but it made me feel great.
That's how my ezine came about. I wanted to help people as much as possible, teach them to steer clear of hype, stick diligently to one thing, and build a good downline in it, whilst showing them how to help each other. You'll find that any articles I've written to date cover these things.
I will say that there are a couple of 'skills' needed for anybody wanting to be an online marketer.
Firstly, you need a touch of 'blindness' so you don't even LOOK at all the hype, because if it LOOKS too good to be true, then it more than likely is.
You need deep concentration, and dedication, to help you stick with one thing, and you need to be able to work really hard at getting that one thing to work.
You also need a lock and key on your wallet. It's real easy to buy into this, that and the other program, and before you know it, you've used a LOT more money than you can afford to lose. There’s always a risk that any money you use could be lost forever, so always keep that in mind.
As for computer jargon, I've been online for 7 years, and I’m STILL learning. Actually, I’m only just now starting to finally understand HTML and PHP so that I can publish my ezine without having to rely on my programmer, who by the way, is the greatest teacher on earth.
There's a page here full of 'jargon' and links to more info, I find it pretty useful:
http://www.imagescape.com/helpweb/history/define.html
When it comes to suggesting a starting point, that's a real hard one. I think I'd say chatrooms and forums personally. Without my programmer, and my other friends that I've met in chatrooms and forums, I wouldn't be where I am today. So I'd say THE most important thing when it comes to marketing is your contacts. Get as many contacts as you can, and learn from their mistakes.
Also, subscribe to a few ezines that really cover the 'newbie' things. Read everything you can that's relative to what you want to do. You'll suffer from information overload, there's no doubt about that, but some of the stuff WILL stick in your head, and you can start learning from there.
If you find the ezine isn't giving you the information you need, un-subscribe and move on to the next one. There's hundreds of thousands of them out there to choose from, just don't subscribe to too many at once, or you'll be so inundated with mails that you will end up not reading any of them.
Read, read, read, and read some more. Take all promises of 'instant wealth' with a pound of salt. (A pinch isn't enough). Question everything that seems to 'over-promise'. Learn as much as you can before starting out, be prepared, and remember: The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask.

Forum Netiquette (Article)
By Anna-Marie Stewart
Forums can be a useful tool if you’re doing business online. You can learn a lot by reading the content and actively taking part in the discussions. Reading a forum's archives can be a great way to get a basic knowledge about a topic, and it can also give you pointers about the changes in trends and opinions through time.
It is always very important to read the terms and conditions of each particular forum for a basic guideline as to what is acceptable. It’s also a good idea to read archived posts in order to see the guidelines in action. If you don’t, you could end up doing something wrong, like spamming the forum, and that could seriously hurt both your name and your business.
Taking an active part in forums can help you gain recognition in topics you show some knowledge of, and may even result in some great business leads and contacts. Read through posts, and answer any questions you are able to in a polite, friendly and helpful manner. It’s a brilliant way to get your name and services known, but you have to be aware that different forums have different rules in regards to self-promotion.
Some won’t allow any hint of self-promotion, some are specifically aimed at self-promotion, and a lot of them fall somewhere in between, allowing either signature files or URL's to an off-the-page member profile. The in-between ones are the best ones to use for marketing yourself, especially as the ones aimed at promoting usually end up more like "spam boards" than anything else.
See if you can choose forums that allow a sig file, which is basically a short block of text about you and/or your services which can be automatically attached to the end of every post you make. No matter what you do, never EVER post a reply to a 'legitimate' topic with nothing but spam in the body of your post. This will annoy forum members who are seeking valid answers, and kill your credibility as an online marketer almost instantly.
"Netiquette" is a must-have if you’re planning to use forums. What is netiquette, you ask? Basically the same as offline etiquette. It is essential to have a good understanding of acceptable ways to communicate with other forum members. That’s why it’s so important to do a LOT of reading in the forums before you start posting messages yourself.
This is where good moderators come into play. They check the forums for inappropriate posts and spam, they keep the boards clean, and make sure everybody plays by the rules. Forums without moderators tend to turn into ghost-towns, with nothing but spam bots visiting them. A nice clean board needs good moderators to keep it that way.
In the worst-case scenario, if you break the rules in a forum, by maybe spamming, or using inappropriate language or behaviour, either the administrators or moderators may well end up banning you from that particular forum. If that happens, they will most likely delete each and every post you’ve made, whether it’s good or bad.
